Salt Spray Test: Ensuring Corrosion Resistance of Coatings :

Updated: Apr 14

Introduction

In industries where metals are exposed to harsh environments, corrosion is one of the biggest challenges. To evaluate how well a coating protects against rust and degradation, the Salt Spray Test (also known as Salt Fog Test) is widely used. It is a standardized and reliable method to assess the durability and quality of coatings.

What is a Salt Spray Test?

The Salt Spray Test is an accelerated corrosion test in which coated or uncoated samples are exposed to a fine mist of salt solution inside a controlled chamber. This simulates harsh environmental conditions like coastal or industrial atmospheres.

The purpose is simple: To determine how long a material can resist corrosion.
